This chapter examines post-revolutionary Soviet Union cinema's take on policing. It analyzes the works of three major Russian filmmakers including Dziga Vertov, Alexander Medvedkin, and Ivan Pyr'ev, who all advocated the use of the camera as secret police agent, prosecutor, and criminologist. The chapter argues that filmmakers took on more than the look of the secret police and that they were instrumental in its major projects, such as identifying the new profile of the socialist criminal/enemy and molding the public response to it.
