Abstract

This book is about the Ottoman Empire in the Age of Revolutions, between 1760 and 1820. Like many polities around the world in this period, the Ottoman Empire experienced a series of institutional shakeups, political crises, popular insurrections, and different pursuits for settlement. While the old order was collapsing, possibilities for a new order emerged. Old institutions vanished. New institutions were tested and contested.
