This chapter discusses Captain Pedro Fernández de Quirós's voyage from Peru in search of unknown islands and a southern continent across the South Sea from 1605 to 1606. It first provides a brief overview of the history of Pacific exploration and then examines to what extent Quiros's voyage can be attributed to emerging baroque scientific sensibilities.
