In November 1977, Egyptian president Anwar Sadat made a state visit to Israel and initiated peace negotiations between the two countries. The prospect of peace between the former enemies had important implications for Israeli Jews who used to live in Egypt. This chapter, in which Jacqueline Shohet Kahanoff reflects on the hope, forgiveness, reconciliation, and love created by Sadat's historic visit to Israel, also includes the views of other prominent Israeli women on Sadat's visit.
