Top-Down Meets Bottom-up

Top-Down Meets Bottom-up

Challenges and Opportunities

(p.227) Chapter Ten Top-Down Meets Bottom-up
Enhancing Campus Capacity for Leadership
Stanford University Press

This chapter explores a variety of tactics that grassroots leaders used, including identifying the right time, identifying people to play a translator role, and negotiating effectively with administrators, managers, and executives to successfully merge with top-down leaders. It examines challenges that occur in the convergence of bottom-up and top-down leadership, presenting several case studies where grassroots leaders identified interest among individuals in positions of authority and the tactics they used to synergize these two levels of leadership.
